Eyelash extensions are amazing. They have an awesome effect on your looks and are the perfect choice for all occasions. The best part about them is that you can get them with close to no effort. Unlike all of the makeup and products we put on our skin on a daily bases, which has to be removed before bed and applied again the next morning, eyelash extensions are meant to last much longer.
But how long do lash extensions last? Well, this actually depends on many things but one of the most important ones is how you take care of them.
In this article, we will provide you with some of the best tips on how to care for your eyelash extensions so they can last much longer and look much better for the time being.
Without further ado, let’s dive right in!
1. Follow the advice of your eyelash technician
Different stylists have their own techniques and use different products when it comes to lash extensions. After the procedure, they will give you instruction on what to do and not do once you get out of the studio. You've probably heard that you should keep your lashes dry for the next couple of hours but there might be more to it. Listen to them, they know what's best based on their experience and knowledge.
2. Clean your lash extensions regularly
We use so many products on our faces on a daily bases. Whatever you've put on your lashes in the morning needs to be removed before you go to bed. This is common sense when it comes to makeup, but it is extremely important to do this if you have eyelash extensions.
Furthermore, throughout the day sweat and dirt often find its way on our face. The skin around your eyelash is often irritated for several days after the procedure and needs to be kept clean to avoid any infections and other problems.
3. Use oil-free products
You don’t want to use anything oil-based on your eyes so you don’t damage your lash extensions. The oils can interfere with the bonding agents that keep the lashes in their place and result in them falling way faster. So, make sure to use oil-free makeup removers, skin cleaners, etc.
4. Don’t use mascara
It is generally not recommended to use mascara at all in order to extend the life of your eyelash extensions. But if you can’t avoid it, use oil-free mascara. Whatever the case, though, never use waterproof mascara as it can clog the lash extensions.
5. Avoid using eyelash curlers
Using an eyelash curler can really pull or damage your lash extensions. If you want to reshape them you can use a clean mascara spoolie to do so. Just take your time and do it gently. Your lashes will thank you!
6. Use eyelash protectant sealer
There are many different protectant sealers to choose from. We recommend using the ones that are applied on your eyelash line and not on the eyelash extensions themselves. The idea is to prevent the skin oils, dirt, dust, and debris find their way to your lashes.
Lash protectant sealers that are applied on your lash line act as a barrier that doesn't allow all of these unwanted substances to come any closer to your lash extensions. Apply the protectant only after you've cleansed and moisturized your face.
7. Don’t rub your eyes
After taking a shower or washing your face, don’t rub your eyes with your fingers or scrub them with a towel. Just pat them really gently with a soft clean piece of cloth and let them air dry.
8. Avoid any extreme heat
Heat can also have a negative impact on the bonding agents that hold your lashes. It is recommended that you avoid hairdryers or at least use them on the lowest possible settings. Also, be wary while you are cooking. For example, you open the oven and get hit by a wave of extreme heat, this can really shorten the lifespan of your lash extensions.
